Get a Library Card

Permanent residents may join the library free of charge with proof of residency.

Non-residents who aren’t eligible for a BC OneCard can obtain a temporary library card for a refundable deposit of $25.00. Once you become a permanent resident or if you surrender your temporary library card, the $25.00 will be returned to you. If your account is subject to fines, the fines will be deducted from the $25.00 deposit and the difference will be returned to you.

Please come in to the library in person to get a library card. If you cannot come in to the library, phone or e-mail us for options.

Cardholder Responsibilities

Borrowed Materials

You are responsible for materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are lost or damaged. The Elkford Public Library currently does not charge for overdue items. Borrowed items that are not returned are considered lost six weeks after the due date. See Loan Periods and Fines for details.

Lost or Stolen Cards

If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it. A replacement card costs $2.00.

Change of Address

It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we will update your record.

Library Card Renewal

To ensure that we have up-to-date information, library cards expire and are renewed on a three year cycle. You will not be able to borrow books in person or online, or access our online services if your library card has expired. To renew your card, come in to the library or contact us and we can renew your card over the phone.
